What is your most marked characteristic?

My need to be heard, which is really secondary to my need to be understood.

What is the quality you most like in a man?

Excellence.  In anything.  I used to believe it was ambition, but the desire to do more is far more common than the characteristics required to actually do something well.

What is the quality you most like in a woman?

Strength and accountability.  The women I admire most are not perfect, but neither are they victims of their imperfection.

What do you most value in your friends?

Loyalty and understanding.

What is the trait you most deplore in yourself?

My need to be heard.  It makes me a horrible listener.

What is your favorite occupation?

Writing.

What is your idea of perfect happiness?

Freedom.

What do you regard as the lowest depth of misery?

To be afraid of misery.

In many, for a certain period of time.

The ones who can make me laugh, cry, and think.

Cruelty, apathy and rodents.

In a tiny apartment, at a very old age, surrounded by a disorganized chaos of memories.

What is your current state of mind?

Sadness.  There are too many people in this world who have to live with grief, and not enough gratitude from those who don’t.

What is your motto?

My motto remains the same as it was the day I stole it from someone much more clever than me so that I could finish my high school yearbook questionnaire.

    Willow for the win. Seriously.

    Also, amen to the fact that there is a general lack of gratitude from people who do not know real grief. It’s amazing to me that even the people who *do* know it can find thankfulness and beauty in such small things. I cannot stand people who live to complain when they really have nothing to complain about.

    (You must have ESP into my current ranty state, haha).

    I love that your idea of perfect happiness is freedom. A recurring theme in my life, to be sure. But what does freedom mean to you?

    I always wonder about people who have never known real grief. How do you get through life without that? How do your grow? How do you learn? I don’t really think it’s entirely possible to be grateful for your fortune when you don’t know anything else.

    Oh, and you know why you like Willow. Because you are Buffy. And Buffy loves Willow.

    I was hoping that was the Willow you meant when I clicked the link! Yipee! I agree with Hilly. It is amazing how many people fail to be the tiniest bit grateful for all they have when so many people around them are suffering.

    When I was younger I had a great need to be heard, second only to my need to be right. That would probably suprise a lot of people who know me now. I’m not sure what mellowed that, I don’t want to say age because that’s the cookie cutter answer. I think it’s more a case of the people I surround myself with now, who hear me even when I am quiet, versus the people I knew then who only heard the loudest in the crowd.

    I may have to do this survey when I get home (at the doctor’s now, hooray)! I think it provided good insight on everyone who’s done it so far. You really are an awesome person, Britt, and I really hope we meet someday!

    I feel like I’m a bad listener too, because of my incapability of shutting-the-hell-up. (Ironic that I’ve only noticed this of late, and esp. when in the company of other Chatty Kathys.)

    My motto is FAR less refined however, I do live by this:
    “I don’t do shit I don’t wanna do”… I guess I’ve heard it put better– “There’s no use crying over the past if in those exact moments you were doing what you truly wanted to do.”
    Basically: No regrets.
    (I’m a badass LOL)
