Knock, Knock

by Miss Britt on May 6, 2009

Her: Knock, knock

Me: Who’s there?

Her: uh… TREE!

Me: Tree who?

Her: I’M A TREE WEARING A HAT!!

And she laughs that one laugh she does when she is being weird.  It’s the four year old girl version of that noise from Revenge of the Nerds, I swear.

Her: Knock, knock

Me: Who’s there?

Her: Uh… *he he he he*… the CAT!

Me: Cat who?

Her: I’M A CAT WEARING A HAT!!

And again with the wheezing laugh.

Me: Knock, knock

Her: what are you doing?

Me: I’m telling a joke.  Knock, knock

Her: *heeeeee he he he* who’s there?

Me: Boo

Her: What is boo?

Me: No, you say “Boo who?”

Her: That’s not funny!

Me: That’s not the joke.  Say “Boo who?”

Her: Boo who?

Me: Stop crying and open the door!

Her: I’m not crying!

Me: No, it’s a joke, see.  Because -

Her: Knock, knock

Me: Who’s there?

Her: Ummm… the SKY!

Me: the sky?  The sky who?

Her: LOOK AT ME!  I’m the SKY and I’m looking at THE TREES!!

Aren’t you glad the tree isn’t wearing a hat?

Do the impatient cow knock-knock joke to her. She’s probably at the perfect age for it.

I love kids who love knock knock jokes, but don’t really get them. My niece is exactly like that.

She also doesn’t get hide and seek. She will find a hiding spot, I will count to 20 (or whatever) say “ready or not, here I come”…and she will pop out of her hiding spot instantly while laughing uncontrollably. It’s actually pretty funny that she does that.

@B.E. Earl, My two-year-old little cousin loves hide and seek. She’ll go “hide” under the kitchen table and I’ll “try” to find her:

Me: Where’s Kat? Is she… under the couch? Nope. Is she… under the ironing board? Nope! Is she… in the playpen? Nope! Is she…

Kat: (as she comes out from under the table) I’m under the table!

Best of all, she’ll “try” to find you and run through the same routine I run through when I “try” to find her. She so has got my number.

I present you this video of Av from 2006 — when he was three. He attempts two knock-knock jokes (in his defense they were at my request). Tragically, he hasn’t really gotten much better at determining the funny.

And, in that way, he takes after me.

You’ll have to get to 0:45 to hear the first one.

Oh, man. The old knock knock joke conundrum!! I don’t think kids really get it for a few years, but damn, they sure try!! Gilda was forever, “lettuce”, and then she was all, “Let. Us. in, it is cold out here!”, and ruined it every. time.
Emma, though, is cute, and you should get this on video. I wanna laugh at her cute little laugh!!!

She’s SO fun! I loved when we drew with sidewalk chalk and played “Hockscotch” while Jay and I were visiting… Still makes me chuckle :)

I think she’s on to something. These are far funnier than the last few knock-knock jokes I’ve heard.

LOL. Those are the best kinds of jokes, except by the end of the joke you kind of want to pull your hair out.

Ah, the hilarious, non sense making knock knock jokes. But I always go on the rule, that a joke is funny if at least one person laughs (and that includes yourself).

    Try this one on her.

    Knock knock

    Who’s there

    Tank

    Tank who?

    That’s quite alright.

It reminds me of the book “Go Dog Go”, my son would laugh hystarically (I know that’s not spelled right) when the dogs would say, do you like my hat? No I do not like your hat. Kids are so cute and how nice that you’ve got this blog to document all these things.

What did the cow say when she spilled her milk? MOOOOOPS!

Yep, I get the snort laugh combo every time.

I hate the knock knock joke phase, especially when people like MY MOTHER encourage it by sending knock knock joke books but the kids still tell jokes like

    knock knock

    who’s there?

    sock

    sock who?

Sock lives in a bear cave! HAHHAHAHAHHAHA

My goddaughter used to tell knock-knock jokes when she was two or three:

    Kay: Knock-knock.

    Me: Who’s there?

    Kay: It’s me, Kaylene!

    Kids are the greatest.

In our house we have the why did the hot dog cross the road jokes. Except he uses it for things that don’t even make sense and when I told him the real punchline “to ketchup to the mustard”, he just looked at me like I was crazy. And then he started saying “why did the book cross the road?” “to ketchup to the ketchup. Get it? I’m funny right?” Then he laughs like crazy. I wish I could be a kid again and laugh at unfunny nonsensical things again!
