*OR: OK. Fine. Becky Is Not A Whore.
Saturday was the day I would wake up in New York City and go to sleep in New York City. Saturday was The Day.
We woke up determined to start our day in the most authentically New York City way possible.
Seriously. There are not words fit to print on this family friendly blog that would accurately describe how pleasurable this bagel was. They are not kidding when They tell you that there is nothing like a NYC bagel. I am salivating right now just thinking about it.
(Side Note: what does it say about the state of your blogging when you find yourself compelled to write an entire paragraph about a bagel?)
MY POINT IS: We had breakfast.
And then we headed back to the scene of Friday Night’s Crime. Namely, the Bus Tour pick up in Time Square.
Are we sensing a theme here? Namely, Britt is a retard who should have her camera taken away from her. For good.
Ahem. ANYway. We hopped on the bus for Downtown Loop Tour. Each of us had designated a few things we had to see while in downtown Manhattan. The Empire State Building for me, Chinatown and Ground Zero for Becky, and The Statue of Liberty for Karl. (It seems Karl has a thing about Liberty.) We decided that no matter how disastrous the last night’s tour had been, the double decker was still our best option for getting everything done in one day.
This guy was our tour guide for the first part of the Downtown Loop Tour. He was funny and interesting and reminded me of a guy that might have hit on me when I was in Italy. Heh.
Thanks to this guy, I actually learned a few things about the things I was seeing.
I actually do have some decent pictures from The Empire State Building that I will put up on Flickr and the Photoblog eventually. But I think it’s much funnier to imagine that they all sucked. Saying “75% of the pictures I took that day were fucked” isn’t nearly as funny.
We left The Empire State Building and hopped back on the next bus.
Except this bus was full on the top and this bus required us to sit inside and this bus had no air conditioning inside. All that being said, we didn’t have far to go to our next stop so we all decided that this bus would be fine.
And then Karl died.
In order to avoid the stench of Karl’s decomposing body, we decided to hop off this bus as soon as humanly possible.
This is a memorial to September 11th. It wasn’t on any of the tourist maps we’d picked up or denoted on the guide for the Downtown Loop.
Perhaps it was because it was so unexpected that it was so overwhelming to see these ceramic tiles. Tributes sent from all over the world and strung up on a chain link fence as a small reminder that people cared.
We covered a lot more ground that day, and I will gladly share it all with you if anyone is still reading this crap, but for now…
This seems like a good place to stop.

Well I was giggling along until I got to that last picture and now I’m bawling. Thanks… WHORE.

Avi, you really need to have a bagel. Come visit. It’ll be worth the aggravation of flying.
Britt, this post was hilarious at the start and touching at the end. Damn you.

When I go to NY I’m gonna have bagels for breakfast, lunch, my afternoon snack and my before bedtime snack. And I might get up at 3 am and have another one.

I’m still recovering from my death. Stupid fucking buses with no air, it’s just medieval!

You pictures aren’t nearly as bad as you think they are. I’m so, so, SO thankful you’re sharing them with us!
The last one… my throat is tight and there are tears in my eyes. I don’t think the reality of 9/11 has ever slammed me as hard as it just did.
Looking forward to more updates! (I’ve been reading, just been horribly busy and then brain dead by the time I get to read, sorry!)

:::Exhaling:::
That was a perfect place to end this post…humbling indeed. There just isn’t any right “words” that could follow what that one picture reflects.

Of course I’m still reading. How else will I live vicariously through your NYC trip?

I’m crying over the tile memorial. That little girl was only 3 years old. How incredibly sad.

 I haven’t had a bagel in a long time. I’m a poor excuse of a New Yorker.
Touching ending.

I miss NY Bagels.
And I’m crying. I’ve seen that Memorial. and I cried when I saw it also.
And good morning to me

My favorite part of my trip to NYC (aside from the bagels of course – which, if you don’t know??? Britt is NOT lying, they are THE best EVER in NYC) was that ceramic tile wall and St. Paul’s church at the WTC site. Very, very moving. I’m enjoying your photo tour, although it makes me want to go back to NYC like right now.
Thanks. :spank:

Miss Britt was looking quite fashionable on the NYC tour.

I’m still reading. I love these NYC recap posts.

Britt – I haven’t been to Ground Zero, but I was in Pennsylvania where Flight 93 went down. It is an extremely difficult experience to explain, but that tile reminded me of it all over again.
I have been following your NYC recap and it looks like you guys had a blast!!!
I need to come to Florida.

I’m all about the bagels.
At least ONE tour guide was good.
Most of the cool things in the city are rarely on maps.

That last tile…

Oh, how very sad. That one just kills me. Poor baby.

1. I’m not going to harass you for mispelling bagel in the photoshopped image. Which is showing a lot of restraint on my part. :cheese:
2. The tour bus guide looks oddly like the picture of the Love Guru that is right behind him.
3. You look so FABULOUS in that green top and sunglasses. Classic and chic. Love it.

I’m going to pretend that I’m not crying right now and just say, once again, love your top!

It’s the water. Delicious delicious NY water.
The suckass water we have in Florida makes for gummy bagels.

Oh my…that tile just ripped my heart out.

Thanks for making me laugh (and crave bagels) and then have a sick feeling in the pit of my stomach.

I’ve written entire posts about bread products. A paragraph about NY bagels ain’t nothing.
Crap! Now I’m hungry. Off to the bagel shop.
(PS – Bagels on Long Island are just as good)

Your recaps are making me miss NYC so very much. I’m glad you had such a great time.

Mmmmmm bagels.
The memorials–so very poignant.

I’m so getting a bagel when I’m in NYC in a few weeks AND I’m making sure my camera IS NOT on night mode!
Oye…the ending. I remember seeing the names and ages of children that were the same age of my children that died on one of the flights and it STILL haunts me like it was yesterday.

Is it lame if all I have to say is “I like your pictures”? Cause uh, I really do and it makes me feel like I actually was sorta there!

OMG the bagels!!! Mmmmm – I talked about NY bagels on my trip, in fact! Funny.
But that last photo – *sniff*. It’s so hard.
Oh, and your pictures are not that fuzzy. Or maybe my eyes are fuzzy and they balance each other out.
Either way, you look DAMN GOOD in that green top!

Oh, damn. That bagel DOES look rather orgasmic! Yum. Dang. Now I’m hungry. I wonder if I have any shitty Georgia bagels in the bread drawer.
Great pics, hon! Can’t wait for more!

i just realized that NONE of us worried about new york cheesecake. we went all that way and didn’t get pizza or cheesecake.
what the fuck is wrong with us??!??!!???
ok, seriously, next trip is gonna be SO different.
(where is the little loser smiley?)

Oh wow Britt – each of these posts has made me greener and greener with envy and now you go and add a huge dollop of true beauty on top. :heartbeat:

I agree with NYCWD. One of the things I love about NYC is there is so much cool stuff around every corner, the stuff that you cant find in any book, but is quintessentially what gives it its spirit and its heart.
I for one am loving the many many photo blogs… graininess and everything… more more more!

I’m enjoying your NYC recap and living vicariously through you.

I know what decomposing bodies smell like. Next time bring a can of Lysol. It will suck up the worst of it. Poor Karl.

I was laughing and smiling through it all, till the last picture.
Then I cried.

Hi, I can’t remember how I got here — maybe through Hotfessional? Anyhoodle…
I’m so glad you enjoyed NYC. I think taking a double-decker to get oriented to the city is a good idea. But, like you discovered with the tile garden, some of the best/most interesting things are unexpected. The next time you come visit, toss the map, toss the guide, and just walk around. Oh, and call me, of course. I know where the BEST bagels are. Headed out the door to get one right now!

I had chills and tears when I read that tile. 3??? Even after all these years, it still is like a punch in the gut.
What a beautiful way to think of her, though…flying into the arms of angels. *sob*

I just recovered from getting poked in the eye while reading your Wii post (yes, I read the posts backwards when I get behind) – your “bagle” snafu and the sound of my stomach growling at the mere mention of NYC style carbs helped me out with that – and then, right when I got to the end of your post, that damned stick got me again. Geesh. :slaphead:

That last picture made me cry……the day my son was born was the day Heaven received all their angels. Thank you for the beautiful picture.

New York bagels are the shit. Too bad you can only get them in NY, unless you can find a way to Fedex them to you each day.
