There is a nasty rumor going around the Internet that I cannot sing.
Someone even had the nerve to say that I was not a karaoke star.
Obviously, they have not heard me at my finest. Which is to say…
They haven’t heard me in the car.
Miss Britt and Prince Sing-Along from MissBritt on Vimeo.
I think I can safely say I have laid any and all doubts about my vocal prowess to rest.
Oh, and while I’m laying it all out there for you, if any of you are parents… would you mind clicking over here and giving me some advice on how to deal with the whole “allowance” issue?
If you're new here, you may want to subscribe to my RSS feed. Thanks for visiting!

Now I just need to upload that video of your Guitar Hero prowess!
July 21st, 2008 at 10:07 pm
my favorite part was when you interrupted the uh… performance (which i loved by the way!!) to shout ASSHOLE!
brilliant
July 22nd, 2008 at 12:07 am
Lol! This must be the week for uploading videos of oneself singing like a fool…uh, I mean “Superstar”…onto Teh Internets.
You are a Superstar. Don’t let anyone tell you different. Not even that finicky American Idol guy.
July 22nd, 2008 at 12:09 am
Highlight for me:
‘This is it. OH YEAH! Dearly beloved. We are gathered here today to get through this thing called life. ASSHOLE!”
July 22nd, 2008 at 12:20 am
I’m partial to “Darling Nikki” myself.
July 22nd, 2008 at 12:20 am
And probably because I broke the intarweb, I can’t get your allowance link to work.
July 22nd, 2008 at 12:21 am
How old were you when that song was released? Five?
(ps - the link doesn’t work for me either.)
July 22nd, 2008 at 12:25 am
I LOVE the spontaneous “ASSHOLE!”
I can recite every word to both the Purple Rain album and the movie. Somehow I don’t think my affinity for Prince even comes close to yours though!
July 22nd, 2008 at 12:27 am
I’m convinced. You. So. Rock. You’re talents are limitless.

July 22nd, 2008 at 12:29 am
Crap! It won’t load for me! I want to hear you say “Asshole” too!!!!!
July 22nd, 2008 at 12:29 am
uh, I’m not cool enough to have sound right now on my computer, HOWEVER, judging by your face in the first frame, I can see that you ROCKED Prince. :-)
Oh, and Mir posted some good thoughts on the allowance question today: http://wouldashoulda.com/2008/07/21/holding-tight-and-letting-go/#more-1941
Am I a total dweeb for just cut and pasting this? I feel like a total dweeb.
Anyway!

July 22nd, 2008 at 12:30 am
That was great. You definitely are a karaoke star, baby!!!
July 22nd, 2008 at 12:34 am
Oh my. Well, isn’t that different!
The “asshole” totally cracked me up!
July 22nd, 2008 at 12:35 am
Whatever you might have lost in terms of key or pitch, you made up for in verve. Oh, and the asshole yell was the perfect compliment to the song!
July 22nd, 2008 at 12:36 am
Miss Britt, I applaud you for your nerve (though you clearly have that in spades, how can I put this delicately? Girl, you are no Sheila E.
July 22nd, 2008 at 1:01 am
ASSHOLE! That was my favorite part.
Good Lordy…you and Jozet singing to me on the same night!
July 22nd, 2008 at 1:04 am
i love you. bunches and bunches.

that was hilarious.
totally unsafe, but hilarious.
July 22nd, 2008 at 1:06 am
I freakin’ love it.
July 22nd, 2008 at 1:18 am
well, i watched it…you drive like i do…singing at the top of your lungs, don’t care who the hell you annoy, while peppering all those classically good songs with humorous profanities directed at the other drivers! wooohooo!! i couldn’t get the allowance thing to work either…
July 22nd, 2008 at 1:50 am
I love it when I find out that other people sing like I do in the car!! Especially when you can shout out profanities at the other drivers while keeping tempo with the song! I often wonder where my children learn their colorful vocabulary…then I remember that I drive around with them
Couldn’t make the allowance link work either.
July 22nd, 2008 at 1:56 am
Sorry for leaving you off my blogroll. Seriously, after post the 25, I thought, “Crap! What about Britt?” I promise to add you if somebody on the list pisses me off.
Which is pretty likely.
July 22nd, 2008 at 2:05 am
That was lovely. You´re a rockstar behind the wheel.
July 22nd, 2008 at 2:46 am
You got it goin’ onnnnnnn!!!!!
July 22nd, 2008 at 7:14 am
I don’t want to brag or anything, but back in the 80s I actually WENT to Prince’s Purple Rain concert. Yep, saw him live.
You sing as well as I do in the car.
You will do well, grasshopper, when your children are teenagers: you have already mastered the art of “mom singing too loud in car” embarrassment.
J.
July 22nd, 2008 at 7:46 am
Loved the ‘asshole’ bit. Prince would be proud.
July 22nd, 2008 at 7:50 am
You are so freaking cute!!!! Loving it girl.
July 22nd, 2008 at 8:10 am
The “asshole” was a particularly brilliant addition to the song. In fact, you need to write to his purpleness and let him know he forgot it from the original.
July 22nd, 2008 at 8:35 am
July 22nd, 2008 at 9:13 am
I love the 80’s. I’m impressed you knew the words. I’ve been listening to it for 20 years and I still don’t know what he’s saying.
July 22nd, 2008 at 9:54 am
Great job!
July 22nd, 2008 at 10:03 am
I’m not sure what part was better, the “Asshole” or when you started dancing in the seat!
July 22nd, 2008 at 10:10 am
I’ve never been able to figure out all of the lyrics in that song and I’m so thrilled to know ‘asshole’ is in the lyrics!
Woot!
BTW, you look so young - like someone in their early twenties young.
July 22nd, 2008 at 11:25 am
What’s with all the video today? I have no sound on my ‘puter here at work. Boo. I’ll be back!
July 22nd, 2008 at 11:37 am
Dammit, other people stole my comment about the ASSHOLE ad lib. You really crack me up. Not your singing. Your singing is goooood. It’s the face and the animation. You rock! I wanna see Adam’s Guitar Hero video!
July 22nd, 2008 at 11:43 am
Clearly, you rock.
Even my daughter thinks so, because she knows that song well, too. I am actually putting Prince on for her right now, because you got us both into the mood! (Oh funny - I was going to put the little smilie down there - I thought he was driving a car! - and my daughter said, “You’re gonna put the one lifting weights down there?”. Haha- I don’t need glasses, seriously!)
Can’t wait for the show tonight!
July 22nd, 2008 at 12:02 pm
I love this! You are so cool! I’m so glad my work server stopped blocking your blog finally. I guess you were to rated R or something. Go figure - LOL!
July 22nd, 2008 at 12:03 pm
If there was a World Driving Karaoke Championship you would totally dominate.
Love when you took time out to scream “ASSHOLE” Nice improvising there. ;-)
July 22nd, 2008 at 12:08 pm
I think there was something wrong with the sound on that video, I could just hear some unpleasant screeching sound
July 22nd, 2008 at 12:18 pm
Now I’m going to be singing that all day. Thanks a bunch. lol
YOU ROCK!!!
July 22nd, 2008 at 12:40 pm
I’ve been gone for a while and just read through your last five entries. God girl, you are such a great writer. And I LOVE your egg plant dish. and hang overs??? They BITE!
But damn, I can’t see the freaking video, but I’m SURE it’s fantastic and you shall be crowned the Karoke Queen!
July 22nd, 2008 at 2:39 pm
I don’t know if it’s good or bad that I was singing along with you
I know that entire album off by heart and am sure that in my dotage, when I can’t remember my husband’s name or whether I’ve pooped today or not, I will still be able to sing Take Me With U…
July 22nd, 2008 at 2:42 pm
You know, I was hoping for more seat dancing, but I give it a 10.
July 22nd, 2008 at 3:44 pm
Ladies and Gentlemen:
I’d like to announce the next contestant for the American Idol try-outs.
(You will be able to view her when the Top Rejects are broadcasted)
*Ahem*
*Whistles Innocently*
Love ya, Miss Britt!
(And I’m totally kidding about the above. Prince is amazing and you do him so much justice. I’m sure if he heard that, he’d want to have your babies and buy you an island!)
July 22nd, 2008 at 3:47 pm
You are a singing prodigy. I hope someone who can actually do something for you hears this. I mean it girl ~ you kick ass on that one. I think for an encore you should do Purple Rain. I would love to hear your take on it. Damn straight.
July 22nd, 2008 at 5:48 pm
I was totally singing along.
July 22nd, 2008 at 8:41 pm

July 22nd, 2008 at 10:35 pm
Kudos!

Keep on rocking…
July 22nd, 2008 at 11:23 pm
Britt…my favorite album is Sign O’ The Times. I love Purple Rain…but there are so many tunes on SOTT that I like….The Cross, HOUSEQUAKE, I Could Never Take the Place of Your Man, If I Was Your Girlfriend, Hot Thing, SLow Love, Starfish & Coffee, Ballad of DOrothy Parker, etc….WHEW…
Okay, i just overheated.
Anyway….nice video…maybe I’ll retaliate with a Housequake video….
July 23rd, 2008 at 12:14 am
my version of “Let’s Go Crazy” is censored… it’s missing the ASSHOLE comment.
The video I want to see is the one that other drivers are taking of Britt singing in her car.
July 23rd, 2008 at 12:32 am
