Miss Britt - Dignity Is Overrated

My Part In The Great Experiment: Part 1

You know how I’m always going on and on about wanting to take over make a difference on the Internet?

No? Come on. Surely I’ve mentioned it once or twice. Somewhere.

ANYway, I’ve seen this Interview Thing going around the Internet. And I’ll be honest - at first I just assumed it was another one of those “ask me questions and I’ll answer” things that has so been done. (And far be it for me to do anything that’s been done.)

Then I saw it over at Karen’s and noticed a link.

And do you know what? It wasn’t just another meme that goes round and round. It was something… bigger. It was something with a purpose. A reason. An idealistic notion.

You know how I love idealistic notions.

And so, I decided to join in the cause and confirm that Everyone is Somebody.

My dear Readers, I give you… Kelly.

(at this point the bold parts are my questions, the regular text are her answers)

You talk on your blog about possibly moving from your hometown (hello! just did this!). What do you think you’d miss the most if you and your family ever left?

Security. There is something nice in knowing where everything is, completely understanding the culture of a town, and being able to make truly educated decisions concerning what’s best for my family and myself.

Of course the flip side of that question is, what would you be glad to be away from?

If we move I will be so happy to be anonymous again.

You know I moved into my current house a few years ago. I moved from a completely different town to this town. Granted they are both small towns that are connected to one larger town. But they are different towns. So when we moved in, the first visitor we had was from my husband’s small hometown who had heard we were moving in. And over the next few days I met all of the neighbors all of whom knew who we were, where we worked, how many children we had, etc. It was so 1950’s horror film creepy!

Also, I always have to watch what I say. Everybody knows everybody in some way. It’s to the point where a girl can’t vent to anybody about anything without so-and-so or so-and-so letting you know that they heard from so-and-so about your troubles. You think in a town that has 1 million + people you’d get some privacy. But you don’t.

Yeah. Anonymity…it would be good thing.

You feature a lot of your own photography on your site. What are you favorite things to take pictures of? And what advice can you give an absolutely craptastic photographer like myself so that I too may get awesome pictures of ice on grass? (Seriously.)

My children, of course, are my favorite subjects. You know when I look back at my own childhood pictures, I think, “Really Dad? That’s the best you could make me look?” So my ultimate goal for my children is to make them look as beautiful on the outside as they are on the inside. All. Of. The. Time. Because to me, as I’ve said before, they glow. And it’s really hard to take a bad picture of a glowing child.

Advice: Wow. I don’t really know how to respond to this one. I think if you take enough pictures of subject, you are bound to get at least one good one. And say something with your picture, tell a story, capture a feeling, make it mean something. Also, morning light it good. Oh, and so is evening light. And…well that’s all I’ve got. Except, don’t buy the type of camera I own. If anyone e-mails me I’ll be happy to let them know what kind it is because it’s impossible to use and it’s a total piece of crap! I’m saving my money now for a big mombojombo Nikon. I think in about 10 years I’ll have it.

I could have written this post. (OK, I probably have written this post in various forms over and over and over again.) You described yourself as unique. What do you think is different about you from “most” people? Please, no need to be humble here.

Humble? Me? Have you not heard me talk about my hotness???

No really, you know I think what’s unique about me is that most of the time I don’t think that I’m that unique. Then I say something that to me is “normal,” and I get an odd look or people laugh, even when I’m not trying to be funny. And it is at that moment I realize that my opinion is unique, or the way I’m looking at the world is unique, or my mouthy nature is unique. But to define what that is specifically about me that is unique is an impossibility for me. Confused yet? I know I am.

Oh wait. I’m one of the 5 Democrats who live in Oklahoma. That’s pretty unique.

What have you, personally, gotten out of blogging?

I used to blog to get my anonymity back. It was nice getting validation from people outside of my area concerning that in fact my part of the country is an odd place to live. But now my entire family and a lot of my “real life” friends read my blog so that anonymity is gone. (I really need to learn to control my mouth.) Now I just blog because, well, my kids are both at school full time, I need something to keep my brain working, and I don’t want to get a job. Wow. That doesn’t sound right does it?

Thanks for playing Kelly. And guys, thanks for reading.

One more thing? Could you pop over and tell Kelly HELLO! from the Miss Britt Gang?

Wow small world! I met Kelly at the Okie Blogger Awards (Where I got my ass kicked by a Redneck Diva, called a non-talent and some guy named Mike yanked my pants down and taunted, “Look! It’s not just his sentences that seem incomplete!!”)

Anyway, Kelly and her husband were real cool. I like her blog and have commented on it a few times. But after that Okie Blogger incident… we don’t really talk.
