I still got it

by Miss Britt on May 4, 2007

Work has been rough lately.  As in, I’ve been questioning my own abilities and thinking “maybe I am not worth a shit as a sales person”.  I can’t go into why.  And why doesn’t matter.  It’s just been… rough.

And then at about 7:30 Thursday night I got a text message.

From my old boss.

“i’ve got a job for u”

my reply: “what?!?  wtf?? why?”

“because it’s good money & u’d be good at it”

Holy. Shit.  You see, my old boss is the reason I left my old job.  We… uh… bumped heads, to put it mildly.  Mainly, I would not bow down to his idea of being God’s Gift To Everything.  And he refused to acknowledge that I fucking kicked ass for his department.

Even now, though we maintain mutual friends and occasionally cross paths socially, our mutual disdain for one another is open.  He says we get along because we don’t work together and he doesn’t have to deal with my “bitchiness”  And say we get along because we don’t work together and I don’t have to deal with the fact that he’s a lying sociopathic prick.  And that works for us, in a bar, because it has to.

But “u’d be good at it”?

You see, he IS what he does.  And he also IS an egomaniac superior ass.  So to compliment someone on their work is The Ultimate for him.  And I have never, ever heard him compliment anyone on what they do - to their face or otherwise.

But I now have, in writing, proof of him saying that I would be GOOD at this job.  A job that is, basically, exactly what I was doing for him before.  But on a larger scale.  In a larger market.  For more money.

Do you know what this MEANS people?  Do you?!?!

It means, quite simply, that I. Rock.

I totally, fucking, rock.

Psst... thanks for stopping by! I hope I didn't traumatize you too badly on your first visit. Remember to subscribe to my RSS feed if you want updates from the site!

Luckily, she’s got someone else who will tell her that she is good at what she does and not be a lying sociopathic prick, too.

Darling, you have ALWAYS been good. The only reason this little peckerhead is acknowledging that now is because HE NEEDS YOU for something. You know that right?

    Pfft.

Gee, I don’t know, Britt. Maybe you should consider this offer, it is more money, and it is a larger market, after all. You’d probably kick serious ass.

Besides… what else are you going to do?

Mom: shhhhh… i don’t care WHY, just give me a minute to bask in it, OK?

Chase: let’s just say, it would take an insane amount of money

Princess of the Universe: well that’s good that YOU guys didn’t. could you bottle some of that confidence and send it to me, please?

AmyD: well of course you CONSIDER every offer

    themuttprincess: THANK YOU! Exactly.

debkitty: yeah, well, hard as this may be for you all to believe - sometimes I have a crisis of confidence

QofD: oooh… now I have a SONG!!!

  16. ADW May 4, 2007 12:24 pm

Of course he wants you back now.

    Typical.

I say brain fuck him but good. Make him believe that you are taking the job and at the worst possible moment - say when he is in a conference with HIS bosses about the huge coup of getting you back - call him up and tell him you got a much better offer.

    Mean?
    Yes
    Fun?
    Yes

    Good times.

Absolutely!! You must consider every offer… leave no stone unturned and all that sort of thing.

Although, I do LOVE ADW’s suggestion. That is brilliant as well!

Would this offer involve your moving, selling real estate, etc? That is always something to consider in the big picture you know…

That’s great! A lot of managers could cut the attrition in their businesses if they only showed some appreciation for their employees. Sure, we want a paycheck, but everyone likes to feel like they’re appreciated and of value to the organization.

Get all the info you can, but the bottom line is, if it’s a good deal and he truly believes that you can do it, giiiiiiirl! Take it!

I had that kind of validation recently when the company I started and sold got rebought by an international. I was all like, whoa: maybe I don’t suck.
