Sweet, Sweet Victory… with a tiny side of Smug

by Miss Britt on November 8, 2006

Let me preface this by saying:

  1. This may piss a few people off
  2. But it’s my blog… so I’m the editor-in-chief :-)

And now:

After 6 years… finally.

Six years of being told that if you were a Democrat you weren’t an American.  Six years of being told - openly - that if you didn’t agree with the Powers That Be, that you were unpatriotic.  Six years of being told that “speaking openly” was tantamount to treason.

It’s been six years that we’ve been cowering in the corner like second class citizens, unable to speak up in our workplaces, or make a difference at the polls, while the “majority” had their way with us - and our country.

Finally.  Finally.  Democrats can come out of hiding and be proud.  We can stand up for what we believe without being dubbed “crazy extremist liberals”.  We can stand strong and open and secure in the knowledge that we are not alone.

We are not un-American.  We are not extremists.  We are not too frickin’ stupid to know better.

Finally, we have a voice.  And hope.

And the courage to use it.

See how we used it across the country and in my home state.

Psst... thanks for stopping by! I hope I didn't traumatize you too badly on your first visit. Remember to subscribe to my RSS feed if you want updates from the site!

I’m glad to hear that you went to the polls. Did you take your kids with you? Going as a kid with my mother is how I learned that voting was my responsibility as a citizen. I figured you’d be the same way. Nuturing.

  2. avitable November 8, 2006 10:30 am

I don’t mind moderate Democrats and moderate Republicans but the extremes on either side are frightening.

  3. Wicked H November 8, 2006 10:36 am

    Amen!!

  4. NYC Watchdog November 8, 2006 10:46 am

I’m still waiting for Bush to declare the new Speaker of the House an enemy combatant and try to deport her to Cuba.

She’ll scratch his eyes out being the feisty broad she is.

  5. Jose918 November 8, 2006 11:18 am

I got my citizenship in the year 2000 and have been a Democrat ever since. I knew it was just a matter of time. We rock!

    Change is gonna come.

  6. juan November 8, 2006 11:25 am

Yeah it’s really good to see that the democrats were able to rally the most moderate in their party to run for them. Good political move! Maybe we’ll see something getting done cross-party! P.S. Can’t wait ’til they finish that fence so people take care of what they need to to cross. Less strife for all!

  7. debkitty November 8, 2006 12:29 pm

Would be oh so nice if my state were not red. I am jealous. but atleast the Dems rule the house!

  8. Delite November 8, 2006 1:53 pm

Honestly, I don’t think it really matters who won, they all fucking suck

  9. Miss Britt November 8, 2006 2:07 pm

The CEO: I voted absentee ballot about a week ago. We discuss politics openly and often in my house - I’m sure my kids will get the point. :-)

avitable: really? I’m usually on some kind of extreme or another, ya know ;-)

    Wicked H: :-D

NYC Watchdog: ROTFLMAO - now there’s a visual image to keep me warm at night.

Jose918: if I had a kissy emoticon, I’d use it here.

    juan: um, yeah

debkitty: and don’t forget, the Senate (as of this writing) is still up!

Delite: D, you know I love you, right?

But I HATE it when people say that!! That’s such a cop out aka an excuse for not making a choice. No one - politician or otherwise - is flawless or perfect or exactly just like me.

But, you still love me, right? ;-)

We fucking deserve it! I am sick and tired of all this Republican bullshit. It’s about time we get some people who might know what the hell we are doing.

As for California - people here are just fucking dumb. Who votes for a moron like Shwarzenegger? We do, that’s who. I’m ashamed..

  11. monique November 8, 2006 5:16 pm

    Amen, sister!

  12. Mr. Fabulous November 8, 2006 7:04 pm

I am a registered Independent, but I am looking forward to the change. It is time things got shaken up!

  13. jane November 8, 2006 7:30 pm

AfuckingMEN girl!!!!!!!!!!! I’m not a Dem., but am clearly a liberal & have gotten sick & tired of people talking as though we’re stupid because of our views & our ability to question authority. Most of the time, I usually won’t argue/debate a Republican only because we’re not going to change each other’s views, so why bother?

Even if a Democratic congress causes nothing more than a stalemate, at least it won’t do any more harm or rid of us anymore of our constitutional rights.
This election obviously took more than just Democrats voting democratically & I’m so thankful for that.
I actually voted for a Republican governor & a total of 4 other parties represent people who got my vote.

I feel like there’s a ray of light in our future & it’s wonderful!

  14. jane November 8, 2006 7:33 pm

Uh, to the comment about voting for Arnold for governor, I’m an Independent & extremely liberal & voted for him. Why? Because economically he’s brought our state from the trenches of our hugest deficit EVER. We’re now doing much better & when push comes to shove, I don’t care what party they’re with. If they’re doing the job right, they get my vote.

ps…My Democratic boyfriend also voted for Arnold.

  15. The Chad November 8, 2006 7:40 pm

I honestly could care less either way. I dont believe either party will ever make my life “better”. Now, if one of particular party could be credited with curing my headache problem, then I’d be all for ‘em!

  16. Miss Britt November 8, 2006 7:57 pm

Bella: LOL, yeah, well, I know people who voted for the Big Dubya too - SMART freaking people… so… that’s politics for ya I guess ;-)

    monique: :-D

Mr. Fabulous: registered Independant. Pfft. My husband is too. Pussy.

jane: you’re a LIBERAL? no way!

The Chad: I get that a lot of people feel like that. for me, politics is a bit of a “passion”.

  17. Kentucky Girl November 8, 2006 9:18 pm

I can’t WAIT to see how this plays out. I’m on “the other side” but it was time for a change. I just hope that they can work together and not against one another to make positive changes for everyone.

It is slightly scary having San Fran Nan two heartbeats away from the Presidency. She “represents” my state and oy vey. She is something else. I think they will groom her to not be so abrasive, but we’ll see. :D

  18. ANO November 8, 2006 9:26 pm

I’m like Mr. Fab. I’m neither here nor there but I am glad to see a change and hopefully it’ll make an impact.

  19. Denise November 8, 2006 9:35 pm

I proudly switched sides a few years ago. I can’t believe I wasted so many years and votes on the Republican party.

  20. avitable November 8, 2006 10:21 pm

You’re not an extremist. You’re confident in your opinions and a pragmatist. While that might not make you a moderate exactly, it also means you’re not letting your armpit hair grow to your elbows and chaining yourself to trees while chanting at abortion clinics.

  21. Squire November 10, 2006 9:47 am

But the Supreme Court has us screwed for decades.

  22. Dayngr November 12, 2006 12:32 am

    We shall see…

  23. Dayngr November 12, 2006 12:35 am

PS… I actually thought people voted for candidates based on issues rather than party. What a dumbass I must be huh?

  24. jester November 14, 2006 6:46 am

I just want to add an “Amen” here.

I’ve got a huge flame war going on on my site with a woman who posted a bigoted, racist, homophobic diatribe and then got offended when I called her on it. She is most definitely a Republican.

Thank God we have hope again!
